Walton’s ladies made the trip to Hastings on Saturday for the fourth round of Southern Women’s League matches and, despite taking a small team, managed their best result of the season coming third and moving off the bottom of the league.

Walton would almost certainly have won the match with a full team of athletes, the seniors won 14 of the 28 events they contested, and the 11 junior events contested produced 4 wins and 7 second places but the twenty empty events proved very costly.

The junior winners were Carla Letheby in the Shot and the Javelin, where she threw a pb, Abi Wroth in the B string discus (with another pb)  and Alice Wills in the 1500m. So few 1500m runners declared for the race that it was run with the seniors and Alice, as well as winning the junior race, beat all but one of the seniors. Carla came 2nd in the discus and Alice, with a pb, was 2nd in the B string javelin. Lauren Highton came 2nd in the 800m and Abi was 2nd in the 100m and the long jump. The 4 girls came 2nd in the relay.  

Helen Channon won four senior events, the 100m, 200m and long jump and the B string triple jump. The B string 100m and 200m were won by Kaylee Price and Rebecca Pickering. Jo Regan won the B string long jump with a seasons best..

Jo Locker produces a pb to win the 800m, and Nathalie Warren won the 1500m with Jo winning the B string race.

Debbie Singleton won the pole vault with her opening height and went on to equal her seasons best and in the shot there was a double win for Kaylee and Debbie. Nicola Aylett ran a pb for 3rd place in the 400m with Ellen Sellwood a tenth of a second slower for 3rd in the B string race. Claire Pearce was 3rd in the 3000m and Kaylee and Jo Regan managed two 2nds in the sprint hurdles. There was a comfortable sprint relay win to round off the day.

The final match of the season is on Saturday 30th August at Thurrock.
