Walton’s senior men rounded off the season at Hastings on Saturday with second place behind the home club and their highest points score of the season.

It was close all day between Hastings and Walton with the lead changing hands a few times before Hastings secured their narrow victory with Walton well clear of the other three clubs. The result leaves Walton in 13th place in the 25 team division 2.

Ramon Wright and Mark Partridge were 4th and 2nd in the 100m sprints, then Alex Fraser and Mark both ran personal; bests for 3rd and 1st in the 200m. Justin Haynes ran the A string 400m and David O’Connell made his league debut for the club in the B race.

The distance runners had a good day scoring 34 points from a possible 40. Jack Marchbank was 4th in the A string 800m with Jon Ladley running an impressive second lap to win the B string race. Jon Hamblen and James Harvey won the A & B 5000m fairly easily and Jon was 2nd in the A 1500m with Jack Marchbank knocking over 10s from his pb to win the B string event. James and Jon Brine then picked up two 2nd places in the steeplechase.

Adam McCarthy set a new pb with a comfortable win in the 400m hurdles and was 2nd in the sprint hurdles in his second fastest ever time. Julian Langley was 4th and 3rd in the B string hurdles events.

The jumps standard was high but there were wins for Alex Fraser in the long jump, with Andrew Kennard 3rd B, and Stu Fawcett in the pole vault, with Jon Ladley 3rd B.

Josh Davis scored well in the four A string throws with two 2nd places and two 3rds, In the B strings there were wins for Adam McCarthy in the discus and Jack Rutherford in the hammer and 2nd places for Jon Ladley in the javelin and Lawrence Munro in the shot.

The day finished on a high note with wins in both relays, the sprint realy squad (Ramon, Alex, Lawrence & Mark) winning by well over a second in a new season’s best and the fastest time by a Walton team for many years.
