Youth Development League (LAG) – Match 2 – 21 May 2016

YDL LAG Match 2 – Guildford – 21 May 2016

The second YDL LAG match of the season saw some encouraging performances from a young team.

There were four new additions to the team: Alex and George Whicker, Jack Taylor and Tom Jones, all of whom performed well in their first match.

Performance of the day has to be Charlotte Vaughan’s incredible 1500m, which broke the Club Record and now ranks her 5th in the country. Sam Bishop also equalled the Club Record over 200m, with the best ever electronic recorded time. There were lots of PBs across the age groups including: Bella Wiles – 800m and JT, Izabella Angell – 150m and HJ, Jack Gemmell and Ricky Villa-Abrille – JT, Alex and George Whicker – HJ, Jasmine de la Touche – DT, Evan Lee – LJ, Michael Cottrill – 300m, Edward Dawson – 80mH, Ben Marks – 1500m, with Tom Cursons, Emma Horsey, Rachel Pharaoh and Eva West achieving PB’s in all of their events!

Many athletes showed true team spirit yesterday by stepping in to events or changing events at the last minute. Clara Sawicki ran a great PB in the 1500m, a 4x100m relay leg and a 4x300m relay leg, all in the space of 35 minutes at the end of the day. Michael Cottrill left his discus throw to run the 800m with just 20 minutes notice and Ross Hurst and Bella Wiles both took hasty changes to their races in their stride to name but a few. Thank you to all the athletes who accommodated the many changes yesterday. It was much appreciated!

Thank you also to the officials, who once again did a great job for the team, Andrew for his coaching and to all the parents who supported and helped to get everyone to their events on time. The team enthusiasm was superb yesterday and culminated in another exciting relay finale, which saw us all cheering home two huge victories in the U15 girls and boys 4x300m.
