New Club records for Sudderick and Mace

A round up of the action at the Surrey Schools Championships on the 10th June, and the subsequent South-East Schools Intercounties last week, where George Sudderick and Sam Mace set new club records in their age groups.

On the track at Kingsmeadow, there were gold medals for George (36.21PB and new club record) in the 300 and Calum Beauchamp in the 400 hurdles, with Tyler Panton adding silver in the 100 and Ben Marks and Charlotte Vaughan taking silver in the 3000. There were bronze medals for Isaac Mammen in the 1500 and Tom Cursons in the 400 hurdles, for the first time getting the better of Joe Hubbard, though this titanic battle continues with the difference in their times again within 1/2 a second.

Our throwers were in fine form as always. Jasmine de la Touche took gold in the shot put, whilst Sam Mace, Sophie Mace and Tait Jones dominated the discus events, each taking a gold medal. Nicola Bell took silver in the javelin.

There were new PBs for Reuben Leyland (38.11) and Kate Raven (44.95) in the 300, as well as Ben Palmer (2.21.43), Tom Jones (2.22.11) and Imogen Burton (2.28.30) in the 800. In the 1500, Jack Gemmell (4.38.34) and Ross Hurst (4.42.46) ran PBs. In the sprint hurdles, there were PBS for Caitlin Paul (12.97) and Emile Fowler (13.84). Sam Bishop ran a PB of 53.53 in the 400.

Those claiming gold and silver were automatically selected for the intercounties at Basingstoke last Saturday, with a few switching events or adding new ones. Our athletes all performed admirably, with wins for George Sudderick in the A string 300, Tyler Panton in the B string 100 and Sam Mace in the discus. Sam’s throw of 47.16m was a PB and new club record. Charlotte Vaughan was 2nd in the 3000, with Jasmine de la Touche coming 3rd in the shot put. Sam Mace also threw the hammer 57.99m for 2nd.

Fourth places were claimed by Ben Marks in the 1500 steeplechase with a new PB of 4.48.04 and Sia Banbury in the hammer. Jasmine also threw the javelin.
