Surrey win the Senior 8 Counties with strong contribution from Walton athletes

Walton athletes provided a good proportion of the winning Surrey team at the Senior 8 Counties Intercounty Championships on Sunday, with a number of athletes recording Season’s Best performances on a warm but blustery afternoon at Kingsmeadow Stadium.

Jo (SS) and Fi (S) leading the 1500

Matt Reed ran 4:18.56 in the 1500 to place 5th in the B string race, and followed that up with legs in the 4x 100 and 4x 400 relays, in both of which the Surrey team came 2nd.

For the women, Lisa O’Brien placed 4th in the B String High Jump (1.30) and 5th in the A String long jump (4.85w), before throwing the javelin 30.81m for 3rd in the B string. Sister Sinead took 3rd in the B string discus with a huge SB (31.47) and 4th in the B string hammer (37.62).

On the track, Susie McLoughlin ran two races within an hour, winning the B string 400 with an SB of 59.77s and placing 4th in the B string 200 (27.21). Walton was strongly represented in the women’s 1500, with Fiona de Mauny (4:37.86) and Jo Locker (4:40.13) running SBs to take wins in both strings, with Jo placing 3rd overall. Fiona ran the lead leg for the winning women’s 4x 400 team.

Surrey won the women’s team event and were 3rd in the men’s team event, winning the overall competition comfortably. Well done to all.
