YDL LAG Match 2

YDL LAG – Match 2, Winchester

It was a smaller but no less determined team who travelled to Winchester in the sunshine on Saturday. There were numerous PBs and great events for our athletes – too many to mention but here are some of the highlights:

Making their debut for Walton was Jacob Thomas coming first in his 100m race (13.7) and 2nd in his 800m (2.41.8), and Jimena Stynes who ran a very good 800m in 2:44.7 and 11.9 in the 75m.

The U13 boys had a good day with Hayden Evans shaving half a second from his 200m PB (25.8) from a standing start due to his broken wrist. Harry Tuckman ran a 5 second PB in the 1500m (5:05.2) and Alex Histon Allvey ran two PB’s in the 200m (27.4) and 800m (2:27.6). James Queen was nursing an injury but still gained points in the long jump and ran a relay leg. The U13 Girls also had good day with many strong results including Annalise Agyei-Kyem who ran a PB in the 75m (10.8) and two PB’s in the LJ, one for Sian Popham (3.98m) and the other for Maddie Emment ((3.16m). Emma Fisher ran two strong sprints and a gutsy relay leg bringing the U13G 4×100 home in 3rd.

Not to be outdone the U15 boys also racked up points on the track and field. George Sudderick achieved another Club Record in the 100m (11.1) and 200m (22.4)! Jon Awuah got two PB’s in the 200m (24.7) and 300m (41.0) and Josh Punton also got a PB in the 100m (13.2) whilst Finn Punton got a PB in the 300m (43.3 and HJ (1.45m). Jack Gemmell ran a magnificent 15 second PB for 4:23.6 in the 1500m and joining him with a new PB was Ollie Emment in 4:44.6. In the field events, Luca Soave threw a new PB in the discus (21.65m). Special mention goes to Jack Gemmell, Ross Hurst and Jacob Gelona for stepping in at the last minute to successfully fill slots in the hammer, discus and shot earning points for the team.

The U15 girls had another successful match with another Club Record for Jeslyn Agyei-Kyem in the 300m in a brilliant 40.6! There were two PB’s for Charlotte Maxwell in the 100m (13.4) and 200m (27.5) and Emma Queen in the 100m (13.6). Olivia Hansen also got a PB in the 75mH (13.2). Catherine Blandford ran a great PB (2:37.5) in the 800m whilst Eloise Williams took over 20 seconds off her previous PB in the 1500m (5:39.3). In the field events, Amy Lee Van Der Westhuizen threw a PB in the JT500 (16.57) and Caitlin Paul threw the discus for a point for the team and managed a huge PB of 20.6m!
Athletes of the match goes to Jacob Gelona for his three PB’s in 80mH (16.8), 800m (2:26.5) and SP (5.19m) and the U15G 4x300m (Georgia Russell, Oliviah Mensah, Eloise Williams and Charlotte Maxwell) who held on to first place in a nail biting race.

A huge thank you to our coaches, Andrew and Hilary and to all our officials, we couldn’t compete without you! Thank you, too, to all the parents and grandparents who came and supported and helped get athletes to the right place at the right time. Finally, congratulations and well done to all the athletes who competed and collected points for the team putting us in 3rd place for this match.
The results will be on the Power of 10 and the YDL websites (links will be live when the results are uploaded).
