Surrey Masters Championships Kingston 27th May

Due to injuries and other committments fewer Walton veterans than usual entered the County champs but those who did picked up no fewer than 8 titles.

In the M40 age group Andy Jones , making his first appearance in these championships came 2nd in both the 200m and the 400m running 26.6 and 58.7.

Robin Roach won the M55 200m in 30.0 and came second in the discus with 26.59.

Jo Regan won the W35 long and triple jumps with 9.94 in the triple and a long jump of 4.85 which improved the championship best set by Jo last year.

Debbie Singleton won the W45 discus and hammer. The discus was 26.36, a new championship best improving the previous one set by Debbie last year and the hammer 25.76.

Ros Aylett took a day off coaching to record a trio of wins in the 100, 200 & 400. The 100 was won in 15.2 and the 200 in 31.4, both in close races. The 400 time was 74.7

Well done to all of the above.

Southern Women’s League 20th May Brighton

Walton came 3rd scoring 169.5 points (missing out on 2nd place by half
a point) which placed us 11th in division 2.

The drive to Brighton was treacherous in poor weather conditions, but
upon arrival the rain stopped.  The competition got off to a bad start
with pole vault equipment missing meaning the event could not be run.
This disappointed Lauren Garhard of Walton AC who travelled to Brighton
solely for this event.  This did not improve when the track events were
due to start, as the only track official was from Walton AC which is
insufficient volunteers to run the competition.  Parents and spectators
came to the rescue from both the men’s and ladies competition to assist
at this joint fixture.

Walton ladies had a very enjoyable day with many athletes gaining
personal best performances.  In the junior ladies, Ellen Sellwood won
100m, 200m and came 2nd in the long jump gaining personal bests in all
her events.  Carla Letheby also threw 3 personal best throws in the
discus, javelin and shot put, which placed Carla 2nd in all 3 events.
Kim Dawkins and Abbie Wroth both jumped personal best heights in the
high jump at 1.40m and 1.30m respectively, and Abbie then went on to
75m
hurdles with Kaylin Purvor to both run best times, placing them 3rd in
the A and B strings.  Kaylin also won B string shot put, putting 6.64m.
Britt Hijkoop came 2nd in both the long jump and discus B strings, and
3rd in the B string 100m running 14.5 seconds.

In the senior ladies Hannah Gray had an incredible day competing in
100m, 400m, 800m and 4*400m relay gaining many valuable points.
Nathalie Warren also excelled, gaining personal best times in 1500m and
3000m winning both B string events.  Kaylee Price and Rosie Marino ran
from hurdles races to high jump to the relay, gaining personal best
performances and scoring many points along the way.

A special thanks to all Walton AC officials, helpers and parents who
sacrificed watching, to volunteer in running this competition.

Walton AC SWL Team Manager

The very disappointing turn out and the poor weather were offset to some extent by some very good individual performances from those athletes who did compete.
There were event wins for Ramon Wright in the A string 100m, Mark Partridge in the B string 100 and in the 200m and for Carla Letheby in the shot. A number of other athletes produced personal best performances.
