Rosenheim League 24th May at Walton

The home Rosenheim match took place in cold and very wet conditions on Wednesday night at Stompond Lane. Many thanks to all the officials who braved the elements to run an efficient if soggy match.

The turnout of home athletes was low, not surprising after such a busy few weeks of competition but the ladies managed 3rd place and the men 6th.
Kaylee Price and Maria Hanshaw ran the same time to come 1st and 2nd in the 100m and Kaylee was also 2nd in the 200. Hannah Gray ran a pb in the non scoring 200 just ahead of Ros Aylett who also ran the 400m
The men had one winner in John Redshaw who took the 800m. Mark Patton, in his first track race, came 4th with Jack Marchbank 7th.
Mark Partridge was a very close 2nd in the 200m and Anthony Wall 2nd in the long jump. Jon Ladley  was 3rd in the shot and the javelin and the relay team of Mark Partridge, Jack, Anthony and Jon rounded off the evening with a 2nd place.

Southern Men’s League 20th May at Cambridge

The journey to the Cambridge University track was rewarded with an excellent win for the senior men.
Some superb individual performances backed up by by a good all round team effort made light of the very poor conditions. As a result of the win Walton move up to 5th place in the league, our highest position since being promoted two years ago.
Craig Timmings had an amazing day, long jumping and triple jumping further than he has done since his return to athletics eight years ago. He won the long jump and pole vault and was second in the high jump and triple jump. Stuart Fawcett won the B pole vault and triple jump and was equal second in the B high jump. Jon Ladley was third in the B long jump.
The star of the sprints was 15 year old Ramon Wright in his first senior match who won the B string 100m and 200m recording personal best times in both events. Multi eventer Adam McCarthy was 4th and 3rd in  the A string sprint events. Adam also won the sprint hurdles in a personal best time with Stuart Fawcett winning the B race.
The throws were a lot stronger with the return of Josh Davis. Josh was 2nd in the javelin, 3rd in the hammer and discus and 2nd in the B shot, there were wins in the B javelin and hammer for Kevin Shepherd and Jack Rutherford.
Walton cleaned up in the long distance track events with James Harvey winning the 5000m and the steeplechase and Steve Mills winning the B string chase with Jon Brine winning an excellent last lap battle to claim 2nd place in the 5000m.
John Redshaw and Alex Ferrelly ran well agianst strong opposition in teh middle distance races. The match was rounded off with two 2nd places in the relays events.

Weekend Round Up 20th/21st May

It was with great regret that we learned over the weekend of the death of Bruce Judd. Bruce was a life member of the club. In the past he had been a talented distance runner and was cross country and road running team captain for Walton for many years. Bruce was a member of the Surrey County Management Committee and was the organiser of the County Cross Country events He will be greatly missed.

A busy weekend for all our athletes with Southern Men’s and Women’s league matches on Saturday and the first Young Athletes League match of the season on Sunday.

The ladies and girls had a day at the seaside down in Brighton where a solid all round performance in cold and windy conditions saw them just missout on  for second place behind home club Brighton and Thames Valley Harriers and just ahead of  local rivals Epsom and Kingston. SWL Report

The senior men had a real battle with the elements as well as the opposition with gale force winds and heavy rain. A few superb individual efforts backed up by an excellent all round team performance produced a win with the best points score since promotion to division 2. The team move up to 5th place in the league. Southern Men’s League Report.

The bad weather continued for the younger athletes at Perivale on Sunday. With a very low turnout of athletes the team could do no better than 8th place. Disappointingly we had no under 15 girls and no under 17 women at all. Results and a full report will follow once we receive them from the host club .
