English Schools’ Combined Events

Philip Kastner representing Middlesex took part in the Intermediate Boys Octathlon competition at Bedford International Stadium.

Philip started off day one with a massive personal best in Long Jump 6:71 (+1.8) for a new under 17 club record. Next event up was the Discus, usually a strong banker for points but unfortunately with two no throws Philip had to make sure he got his third throw in to secure points on the board, so did a standing throw and only managed 22:25, some 20 metres down on his pb. However, after the Discus disappointment he bounced back with a solid Javelin 40:71 metres and a new pb 52:74 in the 400 to end day one in 8th place on 2206 points.

Day two started with another pb and another under 17 club record in the 100 Hurdles with a superb 13:87 (-0.2) clocking. Next up the High Jump and showing great first times clearances throughout, Philip was rewarded with another pb of 1:86, followed by another solid performance in the Shot of 13:44 metres. Last up the 1500 metres 5:23:33, Philip ran his heart out trying to claw back the points he lost in the Discus but unfortunately just fell short and finished up in 6th place overall with a total of 4827 points, an agonising 64 points off a bronze medal.

Congratulations to Philip on his outstanding performances this weekend and two new under 17 club records.
