Southern Counties Veterans League – Kingston – 9 May

A few of the oldies were allowed out on Monday to compete at the Southern Counties Veterans League in Kingston on a wet, muggy night. Some good performances but the team lacks competitors in the older category so if your grandad or grandma is free on Monday evenings please send them along to the next match. There are lots of valuable points up for grabs.

Well done to Jack, Stuart and Jo for the their maximum point performances.

Ebbisham League – Walton – 8 May

A great first Ebbisham League match of the season all round, in fabulous weather! .  Walton came 4th on the day in their division, with Kingston in first place, Guildford second, and Herne Hill third.

Some excellent performances all round from the U11’s through U17’s with numerous PBs set.  The final results are still being processed and I will send these out when I get them this week.  Stand-out performance has to be Sam Bishop’s new U15 club record of 38.0 seconds for 300m.  Also great to see our new U13s, Jack Taylor, and Alex and George Whicker,  step into team scoring events for the first time.

Great team spirit on show and coming together for the club, with everyone taking some valuable experience from the day.  Many thanks to all of the volunteers and officials who truly helped the day run smoothly.  Thanks also to Hilary and Andrew for their continued devoted coaching, and inspiring the athletes to achieve.  Of course also thanks to the parents who give up their time to enable the athletes to compete J.  Special thanks to Jack & Debbie, without whom we wouldn’t be able host such a successful home match – they worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk to make it happen.

Finally as this was my first Ebbisham match as the new team manager, thank you all for your patience and understanding over the last 2 -3 weeks – a really pleasing first match for me.

Next up for the Ebbisham League is our second match at Tooting on Sunday 26th June 2016, for which I will be in touch nearer the time.

Just a reminder that if any of you borrowed vests on the day and have not yet handed back, please could you return to me or Andrew/Hilary at your earliest opportunity.

Youth Development League – Poole

Youth Development League – Match 1 – Lower Age Group – 23 April 2016 – Poole

It was an early start for the small team who traveled to Poole last weekend for the first YDL LAG match of the year. Following promotion last year, the competition was tough but we held our own. The team was joined for the first time by Bella and James Wiles, Freddie Allen, Izabella Angell, Latoya Nurse, Eva West, Jacob Gerona, Tea McBean and Ross Hurst. They all performed well and Tea and Freddie both showed great strength of character when they got up and continued racing after nasty falls.

There were some great PB’s on the day. Ben Marks had an outstanding run in the U15B 1500m to smash 23 seconds off his PB. Jack Gemmel also knocked 10 seconds off his PB in the U13B 1500m. Ed Dawson took 3 seconds off his PB in the U15B 800m and in the U15G 800m Rachel Pharaoh had a great win when she went under 5 minutes for the first time. The sprinters also did well with Emile Fowler running a huge PB in the U13B 75mH and Tom Cursons bettering his PB by 1.1 seconds in the U15B 80mH. Clara Sawicki ran a new PB in the U15G 300m and Sam Bishop stormed home in the U15B 200m in less than ideal conditions coming just 0.2s away from the club record. Georgia Russell celebrated her birthday with a massive U13G SP victory and two further PB’s in the LJ and 75m. The relays were as exciting as ever culminating in an astonishing 4x300m win for the U15B team.

Thank you to Debbie and Jack and all the parent officials who officiated on the day, Andrew for his coaching and a special thank you to all the parents for travelling and supporting!
