Surrey Schools Championship

Congratulations to all our Walton Athletes who have been selected to represent their districts in the forthcoming Surrey Schools Championships 14th June at Kingsmeadow.   Two districts still to declare so hopefully not missed anyone out (Guildford and South Surrey).

Surrey County Championship at Kingston

This weekend saw another successful county championship for Walton. The club’s athletes equalled last year’s record haul of 19 Surrey Championship titles with plenty of silver and bronze medalists and lots of finalists.

 

UNDER 13 GIRLS
Jasmine DeLa Touche in her first Championship claimed two gold medals, winning the discus and the javelin 19.75 & 20.29 and also running 14.03 in the semi final of the 100m, all three were pb’s.

Darcie Weston-Jones won the bronze medal in the discus and was 6th in the javelin, another couple of pb’s 16.86 & 17.01.

Clara Sawicki ran a 5 second pb to come 5th in her heat of the 800m (2.42.92), just missing out on a place in the final.

Charlotte Vaughan came 6th in the 70m hurdles final in 13.25 but ran even faster in her heat, a pb of 13.06. She also ran a 1500m pb of 5.24.20 to finish 8th .

 

UNDER 15 GIRLS
There were three title winners in the age group. Nicola Bell set a new championship best in the javelin of 31.45 and came 2nd in the hammer 26.56 and discus 23.41, all were pb’s.

Tait Jones won the discus 25.05 and equalled her pole vault pb of 2.20 for 2nd place. Hetty Taylor set a new championship best of 10.97 to win the shot and ran 13.57 and 28.01 in the 100 and 200. Sia Banbury set a new pb of 24.72 to come 3rd in the hammer. Hollie Heapes improved her long jump best to 4.33 for 5th place and equalled her high jump pb of 1.35 for 9th.

 

UNDER 17 WOMEN.

Sophie Mace claimed two titles. She set a championship best of 49.76 in the hammer and won the discus with 42.73. Sophie was also 2nd in the shot with a pb of 12.78.

Millie Thorpe also set a shot pb of 10.24 to win the bronze medal. Millie showed her versatility with three more pb’s, throwing the javelin 29.41 for 6th, long jumping 4.83 6th, and running 12.01 for 4th place in the 80m hurdles.

UNDER 20 WOMEN
We only had one entrant in this age group, Lucy Weir came 5th in the long jump with 4.29..

SENIOR WOMEN
Carla Letheby won two titles and picked up medals in two other events. She won the discus with a new pb of 41.05, won the javelin with 34.87, came 2nd in the hammer with a pb of 45.45 and set another best in coming 3rd in the shot, 10.78. Sinead o’Brien also set a hammer pb to come 3rd with 37.58. Sinead was 4th in the shot, 8.57 and discus, 25.49.

Susie McLoughlin won the silver in the 400m with 58.99 and was 6th in the 200m in 25.86. In the 800m Walton runners were 3rd, 4th and 5th. Fiona DeMauny ran 2.17.59 for the bronze medal with Jo Locker 4th in 2.22.80 and a season’s best of 2.23.29 for Lizzie Amos in 5th . On Sunday Jo and Fiona were back, Jo won the 3000m in 10.36 and Fiona ran her second fastest ever 1500m 4.48.32 for second place.

UNDER 13 BOYS
Conor Martin was the only under 13 boy to enter and he had a busy weekend with 4 events and 3 pb’s. Conor was 5th in the 75m hurdles in 14.70 pb, 5th in the 200m final (running a pb 28.27 in his heat) 6th in the 100m final (a pb of 13.58 in the heat) and 6th in the long jump with 4.17.

UNDER 15 BOYS
Only two athletes in this age group but a huge medal haul from Sam Mace and Sawa Yamakawa.

Sam won all four throwing events. He set pb’s of 40.71 in the discus, which was a championship best, and 42.82 in the hammer and threw 39.26 in the javelin and 11.55 in the shot.

Sawa came second to Sam in the discus and shot with a pb of 32.56 and 11.40. Sawa won two titles himself, setting another two pb’s. In the 80m hurdles he ran 11.50 and in the long jump he jumped a wind assisted 6.06 and a legal 5.94. Sawa also threw a pb of37.61 to come a very close 4th in the javelin.

UNDER 17 MEN.

Andy Lomax ran a pb of 58.87 in blustery conditions to win the silver medal in the 400m hurdles.

Conor Beauchamp finished strongly to run a season’s best of 4.33 in his 1500m heat to qualify for the final, and then ran another seasons best of 4.30.86 for 6th place.

UNDER 20 MEN

Two competitors and three titles.

Curtis Knight was only 1 cm below his best in the hammer, winning the title with 50.11.

He then set a new pb in the discus of 42.28 to finish 3rd.

Hugo Fleming won the middle distance double. In the 1500m after a slow first two laps he kicked away to win by 5s in 4.00.90. In the 800m final he sat on the leaders shoulder until 150 to go then sprinted away to win in 1.54.68

SENIOR MEN
Only one senior man competed, Bernhard Jongejan came 3rd in the javelin with 40.48 and was 6th in the hammer with 30.54.

In total 26 athletes competed and won 19 titles, 9 silver medals and 9 bronze.

Ebbisham League at Kingston 18th May

A super hot day at Kingston and some sizzling performances to match took Walton boys to the top.
 
A strong team of twenty four boys all clubbed together to win our Division.  While the under 11’s ran and ran and jumped the big boys took the lead.
 
For many this was their first competition but determination won the day over all the nerves and exhaustion.
 
We had PB’s galore and a fantastic start to the boys comps and a most impressive turn out and performances.
 
A very big thank you to all our officials and help from Hilary, Andrew and Ben who warmed up, jeered up and cheered up all.
 
Man of the Match – a tricky one as you were all excellent but I would have to choose Charlie Feinson as no sooner had he returned from his 400m and took of his spikes
 
he was called on as reserve and straight back out to the track to help the boys in a thrilling relay performance as well as winning his 400m and 800m and 3rd in High Jump.

Also Sawa Yamakawa ( 2nd Year Under 15 Boys) 80m Hurdles 11.6 sec is the National Standard Qualification time for English Schools Track and Field Competition and 
 
Sam Mace  (1st year Under 15 boys) Discus 40.03m is above the National Standard Qualification of 38.0m also for the English Schools track and Field Competition to be held on 11/12 July 2014.

Southern Athletics League at Walton 17th May

Saturday saw Walton’s senior men and women in action at Stompond Lane in the second  Southern Athletics League match of the season.

In a very exciting match where the lead changed hands a number of times throughout the day Walton eventually came second to a strong Brighton team with Nene Valley Harriers 3rd and Chelmsford 4th.

Brighton 198.5, Walton 195, Nene Valley Harriers 178.5, Chelmsford 141.

The result moves Walton up to 8th place in the league.

An impressive total of 35 Walton athletes competed with many pb’s and great performances. Top individual point scorers were the women throwers and distance runners with Carla scoring 15pts and Sophie 12 in the throws and  Jo scoring 15pts and Fiona 12 in the distance races.

YDL Lower Age Groups match 1 at Woking

Well done for the first YDL of the season we won the match by 91 points!!! Next match Saturday 31st May Worthing.

The U13 Boys/U15 Boys and U15 Girls all came first and the U13 Girls which had suffered from reshuffles on the day came 3rd only 7 points behind Sutton in 2nd and only 13 points behind Woking in first.  The U15 Boys got 187 points in total and the U15 girls 186!!! Game on……..

Sam Mace, Sawa Yamakawa, Jasmine de la Touche, Conor Martin and Tait Jones won all of their events.

Nicola Bell got 2 first and a third and Daniel Horsey 2 firsts.
