The Southern Athletics League season started on Saturday with Walton travelling to Portsmouth.

A good all round performance, especially from the women, saw Walton claim 2nd place, narrowly losing out to home club City of Portsmouth and comfortably beating Milton Keynes and Worthing.

The result puts the club 5th in the league table after the first round of matches.

Well done to all who competed and thanks to all who travelled to help and to support.

The next match is at Bromley on 18th May.

The first of the new Youth Deveopment League programme starts at Sutton in
May. Unfortunately there are no non scorers. Two athletes per event so
everyone will be expected to compete out of their comfort zone in 3 events for
the best team result.
The competition is for under13 (school year 6
nad 7) and under 15 (school year 8 and 9)Boys and Girls

Have a look at the time table and and choose your best three events. I
will try to fit as many as possible into their first choice events. You should
arrive by 11am unless you are an U15boy throwing  hammer in
which case you need to be there by 10.30.
If you turn up without
letting us know you are coming you may be
dissappointed
There will ONLY be training for the competition group
on sunday if you compete or have offered to compete on
saturday

Congratulations to Sophie Mace and Sawa Yamakawa for winning best performance
awards at the County Championships in 2012.

Sophie and Sawa received their awards at the SCAA AGM.

Sophie won the U15 girls award for her Championship best performance in
discus taking the record from another Walton athlete Carla Letheby.

Sawa won the U13 boys award for his performance in the pentathalon, which
ranked him number four in the Country.

The first  boys’ match of the season is at Sutton

The match is for U13 and U15 boys with some non scoring events for U11 boys
and U17 men.
There will be competition group training on the day for girls
only. There will also be no training for boys in the junior group either as
they should be at the match. Junior girls turn up at 9.45 as
usual.The match starts at 1.30 and finishes at around 5pm you should
arrive at 12.45. Parking at Sutton is limited, but there is free
parking in the street.
