Weekend Round Up 20th/21st May

It was with great regret that we learned over the weekend of the death of Bruce Judd. Bruce was a life member of the club. In the past he had been a talented distance runner and was cross country and road running team captain for Walton for many years. Bruce was a member of the Surrey County Management Committee and was the organiser of the County Cross Country events He will be greatly missed.

A busy weekend for all our athletes with Southern Men’s and Women’s league matches on Saturday and the first Young Athletes League match of the season on Sunday.

The ladies and girls had a day at the seaside down in Brighton where a solid all round performance in cold and windy conditions saw them just missout on  for second place behind home club Brighton and Thames Valley Harriers and just ahead of  local rivals Epsom and Kingston. SWL Report

The senior men had a real battle with the elements as well as the opposition with gale force winds and heavy rain. A few superb individual efforts backed up by an excellent all round team performance produced a win with the best points score since promotion to division 2. The team move up to 5th place in the league. Southern Men’s League Report.

The bad weather continued for the younger athletes at Perivale on Sunday. With a very low turnout of athletes the team could do no better than 8th place. Disappointingly we had no under 15 girls and no under 17 women at all. Results and a full report will follow once we receive them from the host club .
Young Athlete’s League Results

The week ahead is another busy one. On Monday night the second Master’s League match will take place at Battersea Park Master’s Timetable . On Wednesday Walton host the second Rosenheim League match Rosenheim Timetable . All senior athletes of whatever standard can compete and under 17’s may compete as seniors. Any help with officiating will be gratefully received, please call Debbie or Jack or just turn up on the night. On Saturday it is the turn of the veteran athletes to have their county championship at Kingsmeadow. Surrey Master’s Champs

Next weekend is a busy one with the Southern Women’s League team at Brighton and the senior men at Cambrdige on Saturday and the first Young Athletes League fixture on Sunday at  Perivale. Contact your team managers if they haven’t contacted you.

On Monday 22nd is the second Masters league match at Battersea and Wednesday 24th is the second Rosenheim League match, which is at Walton.
