YDL UAG Match 2 Report

UAG YDL Bexley 27th May

Walton made the trek to Bexley to perform brilliantly just like the weather.

I hope the new faces to Walton AC UAG YDL all enjoyed their first comp and were all made to feel welcome.

There were 17 new personal bests and 29 first places for the squad.

Such fine performance ensured Walton came 2nd out of 7 teams, so a huge pat on the back for all.

Our field athletes filling 20 events managed to outscore our track athletes filling 26 events with 176 points in the field and 164 points gained on the track !! But our track athletes managed quite a few PBs.

A huge thank you to our ever loyal team of officials without whom these matches would not go ahead : Pauline Begley-Jones, Nick Dawson, Karen Hubbard, Vanessa Lee, Clare Mammen, Tracy and Chris West.

Also to all the parents for making the journey to Kent and to Coach of the Day Andrew Kennard. The team spirit was high with special thanks to all those athletes filling relay gaps at last minute. You re all stars.

What a fantastic bunch of athletes Walton have supported by super parents, you should all feel very proud.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Sam Bishop.

Also the U20 Throwers: Nicola Bell dominating all the throws winning Hammer, Discus, Shot and the Javelin and Sam Mace the Hammer, Discus and the Shot.

YDL LAG Match 2

YDL LAG – Match 2, Winchester

It was a smaller but no less determined team who travelled to Winchester in the sunshine on Saturday. There were numerous PBs and great events for our athletes – too many to mention but here are some of the highlights:

Making their debut for Walton was Jacob Thomas coming first in his 100m race (13.7) and 2nd in his 800m (2.41.8), and Jimena Stynes who ran a very good 800m in 2:44.7 and 11.9 in the 75m.

The U13 boys had a good day with Hayden Evans shaving half a second from his 200m PB (25.8) from a standing start due to his broken wrist. Harry Tuckman ran a 5 second PB in the 1500m (5:05.2) and Alex Histon Allvey ran two PB’s in the 200m (27.4) and 800m (2:27.6). James Queen was nursing an injury but still gained points in the long jump and ran a relay leg. The U13 Girls also had good day with many strong results including Annalise Agyei-Kyem who ran a PB in the 75m (10.8) and two PB’s in the LJ, one for Sian Popham (3.98m) and the other for Maddie Emment ((3.16m). Emma Fisher ran two strong sprints and a gutsy relay leg bringing the U13G 4×100 home in 3rd.

Not to be outdone the U15 boys also racked up points on the track and field. George Sudderick achieved another Club Record in the 100m (11.1) and 200m (22.4)! Jon Awuah got two PB’s in the 200m (24.7) and 300m (41.0) and Josh Punton also got a PB in the 100m (13.2) whilst Finn Punton got a PB in the 300m (43.3 and HJ (1.45m). Jack Gemmell ran a magnificent 15 second PB for 4:23.6 in the 1500m and joining him with a new PB was Ollie Emment in 4:44.6. In the field events, Luca Soave threw a new PB in the discus (21.65m). Special mention goes to Jack Gemmell, Ross Hurst and Jacob Gelona for stepping in at the last minute to successfully fill slots in the hammer, discus and shot earning points for the team.

The U15 girls had another successful match with another Club Record for Jeslyn Agyei-Kyem in the 300m in a brilliant 40.6! There were two PB’s for Charlotte Maxwell in the 100m (13.4) and 200m (27.5) and Emma Queen in the 100m (13.6). Olivia Hansen also got a PB in the 75mH (13.2). Catherine Blandford ran a great PB (2:37.5) in the 800m whilst Eloise Williams took over 20 seconds off her previous PB in the 1500m (5:39.3). In the field events, Amy Lee Van Der Westhuizen threw a PB in the JT500 (16.57) and Caitlin Paul threw the discus for a point for the team and managed a huge PB of 20.6m!
Athletes of the match goes to Jacob Gelona for his three PB’s in 80mH (16.8), 800m (2:26.5) and SP (5.19m) and the U15G 4x300m (Georgia Russell, Oliviah Mensah, Eloise Williams and Charlotte Maxwell) who held on to first place in a nail biting race.

A huge thank you to our coaches, Andrew and Hilary and to all our officials, we couldn’t compete without you! Thank you, too, to all the parents and grandparents who came and supported and helped get athletes to the right place at the right time. Finally, congratulations and well done to all the athletes who competed and collected points for the team putting us in 3rd place for this match.

Lily B Match 1 Report

Lily B League – Match 1 – 5th May – Report

We had some wonderful weather at our first Lily B event on Saturday 5th May at Ewell with a brilliant turnout of girls ranging in age from U11 to U17. Everyone should be really pleased and proud of their performances.

There were amazing results from beginning to end both on track and field. We had two new club records – Jeslyn Agyei Kyem 12:4 for 100m U15 and Cedelle Agyei Kyem for 300m in 41.00 U17. Some PBs from Jeslyn (24:7 for 200m U15), Cedelle (25:5 for 200m U17) and Emma Fisher (27:2 for 200m U13).

On the field we stormed the Hammer with two wins from Amy-Lee van der Westhuizen 28:0m (U15) and Eva West 29:02m (U17).

There were a number of firsts with Maddie Pompei (U17) competing in pole vault, Olivia Hansen (U15) in the sprint hurdles and three very new competitors in our U11 team – Alana Oosterkamp, Olivia Barnes and Poppy Scott who had some excellent performances in a number of events.

A special mention should be made to Jess Swetman and Sally Mammen who stepped in to complete the U15 relay team on the day.

And finally a huge thanks to our dedicated officials on the day – Hilary Jones, Tracy Heron, Chris West, Clare Mammen, Travis Hansen and last but not least Richard Emment who was track judge for the whole day in the heat.
Thank you too to all the parents who made the whole day really enjoyable.

YDL UAG Match 1 – Report

Match Report UAG YDL 29th April Sutcliffe Park

The weather was dark, damp and dreary but the Walton team were all far from that.

The day started and ended with top performances both on the track and in the field.

Our best performances on the track for the day were Tyler Panton and Cedelle Age-Kyem.

Meanwhile in the field Eva West, Jasmine de la Touche and Sam Mace threw their socks off!

Special mention to our new upper age group athletes especially Sean Deane and Tyler Panton who showed tremendous team spirit and commitment to ensure that the 4 x 400 Walton team competed and won with a stunning performance.

Also all those U17’s who kindly competed as U20 to help Walton finish third out of seven teams.

A very special thank you to Jack Rutherford our Club Chairman who came out to brave the cold and cover timekeeping.

As well as our Lead Official Debbie Singleton and her team ; Juliet Hobbs, Tracy West, Chris West, Karen Hubbard, Marie Marks, Clare Mammen,Elaine Pharaoh and Stuart Mace.

Thank you too to all the parents who made the trek across London and braved the cold.

Ebbisham League Match 1 Report

A small team of boys made the trip to Ewell for the first Ebbisham league fixture of the 2018 season.

Despite many of the boys having their first experience of competing at an athletics match. Walton boys showed they will be a force to be reckon with this season and put in a solid team performance. Scoring consistently on the track and in the field with everyone contributing towards the points and many PBs despite the chilly weather, and were duly rewarded with a second place finish behind home club Epsom & Ewell.

George Sudderick won the under 15 boys A string 100 11:6 & 200 23:0 and was supported by Jon Awuah winning the B string 100 12:3 & A string 300 41:7 and Joseph Daws-Twilley winning B string 300 44:3.

Whilst in the middle Distance events there was good performances over 800 from Joseph Daws-Twilley 2:24:4, Callum Stewart 2:55:5 and a PB from Jacob Gelona 2:32:3. In the 1500 boys club captain Jack Gemmell ran 4:40:2 to come home in second place in A string and Ollie Emment 4:51:4 won the B string.

In the field Ricky Villa-Abrille was a class apart and secured two victories in the Discus 21:66 and Javelin 35:37. Newcomer Gabriel Roberts also won the Long Jump with a leap of 4:97.

In the under 13 boys Alex Histon Allvey has a busy day and won the A string 100 14:2 and Long Jump 3:95 and also ran the 800 for good measure in 2:34:1.
Special mention should go to James Queen who slipped at the start of the 100, but he showed maturity beyond his years as he got up to finish the race securing third place. He was also second in A string 200 29:9 and B string Long Jump 3:23. Jacob Thomas was second in B string 200 30:1

Harry Tuckman was the sole Walton representative in the 1500 but he gave another solid performance to come home in third place 5:24:2.

Newcomers Dan Sloggett in his first ever HJ competition was rewarded with first place finish, with a 1:15 clearance.
