British Masters AF Championships 12/13 March

The club had some fantastic results at Lee Valley where our athletes were competing in the national British Masters Indoor championships last weekend.
  • Jo Flowers won the W45 60m in 8.71, won the 200m in 28.58 and was 2nd in the 400m in 63.63.
  • Jo Locker won the W35 1500m in 4.47 and was 3rd in the 3000m in 10.19.
  • Susie McLoughlin won the W35 200m in 26.30.
  • Chris Taplin came 2nd in the M45 400m in 54.79 and 3rd in the 200m in 24.99.
  • Jon Hamblen came 2nd in the M40 3000m in 9.25.
  • Debbie Singleton came 2nd in the W55 discus with 22.89m.
  • Stuart Channon came 2nd in the M35 200m in 24.03 and was 6th in the M35 60m in 7.36.

Surrey Indoor champs report 20 February

11 Walton athletes entered the Surrey Indoor champs at Carshalton on 20th/21st February and came away with four gold medals and a silver.
U13 girls Caitlin Paul and Georgina Russell came 4th and 5th in the long jump, 3.69 and 3.66. In the 60m semi final Georgina came 4th in 8.86 and Caitlin 5th in 8.91 (8.87 in heats).
Tait Jones came 1st in the under 17 women’s pole vault with 2.70, she ran 8.80 in the 60m heats.
In the under 20 women’s age group Sophie mace won the shot with 11.08 and Jemima Hobbs was 5th in the 60m in 8.92.
In the under 15 boy’s long jump Sam Bishop won with a leap of 5.63. Sam was also 4th in the 60m in 7.66. Tom Cursons came 2nd in the 60m hurdles, 9.60 and ran 8.12 in the 60m heats. Evan Lee came 4th in the high jump with 1.45m.
In the under 17 men’s shot there was a win for Sam Mace with 13.09. Joe Hubbard came 4th in the high jump with 1.60 and 4th in the 60-m hurdles 9.48. Joe O’Connor ran 7.41 for 6th place in the 60m semi final.

South of England Masters Indoor Championships 14 February

A number of our Masters athletes competed at the South of England indoor championships at the weekend.

  • Jo Flowers ran her first ever indoor race and won the W45 400m in a new pb of 63.27.
  • Jo Locker won the W35 3000m in 10:42. 
  • Chris Taplin won the  M45 400m in 56.08s and came second in the 200m in 25.57.
  • Chris Ness won the M45 pentathlon by 5 points, 2650 to 2645. His best performances were the high jump, 1.61, (his best this century!) and the 1000m in 3:02.68.
  • Stuart Channon was second in the M35 60m by only 0.02s in 7.47 and third in the M35 200m in 24.35.
  • Susie McLoughlin won the W35 200m in 27.03.
  • Jo Regan won the W45 60m and triple jump with 9.80 & 7.79
  • Sarah Burke won the W40 60m hurdles in 9.81

2XU Surrey League Cross Country – Match 4 – 13 February

The final cross country races of the season took place on Saturday with the girls and ladies at Richmond Park, the boys at Wimbledon Common and the men in a relegation fight at Lloyd Park. Selected results are below and full results can be found here. The men avoided relegation by the narrowest of margins, based on the latest results. Well done to everyone who raced this season.

Congratulations to Matt Reed and Duncan Woolmer who won Gold and Silver medals for the leading individuals in the men’s league. Fantastic achievements.

2XU Surrey League Cross Country Division 2 – Match 3 – 16 January

A fabulous run by Matt Reed saw Walton lead the field home in the third match of the season, with Duncan closely behind in 5th place. Unfortunately these stellar performances were not backed up by a strong team performance with only six athletes racing. Walton has fallen into the relegation zone and will have to scrap it out in the final race to stay in Division 2 for next season. Selected results below and full results here.
