YOUTH DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE SUTTON ARENA 1ST JUNE

Congratulations to the girls and boys of Walton winning the second match in
the series from the home Club Sutton.

The day started well the Fraser McAllister and Josh Cook winning the hammer
and the Club never lost the lead.

The day ended with a fantastic performance from the relay teams winning
them all apart from the under15 girl, who came second to a very good Sutton
team,.

Both A and B strings performed well with 20 A string wins and 20
B string wins. Just as importantly there was good back from all the team
members not just the winners. The team commitment was best demonstrated
by Hollie Weston-Jones who managed to compete in 3 events at the same time
and still find time to throw up.

The under13 boys managed to find 4 athletes for the first time this season
and there was considerable excitement in having a relay team for the first
time, which won their race.

All in all an excellent day with numerous pbs as well.

Thanks to all the parents who helped out and made sure everybody turned up
to their events  on time and lent a hand in the field.

SURREY TRACK FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP KINGSMEADOW 25TH AND 26Th MAY

This year’s Championship was probably the best in recent memory for the
Club. The largest number of members for a number of years took up the
challenge and turned out to show what they could do on the track and in the
field.
The later start date seems to have given everybody a bit more time to
hit some reasonable form. There was also the added bonus of two days of good
weather.
UNDER 13 GIRLS
India Dryburgh in her first Championship fought
her way through to the final of the 100m where she came a creditable 8th. India
also made it to the final of the 200m where she came 5th with a new pb. Best
result of her day came in the long jump where she won the bronze medal again
with a new pb.
Darby Begley-Jones made it through to final of the 800m where
she came 8th. Darby ran new pbs in the heats and final. Darby also entered the
long jump and jumped a new pb.
Charlotte Vaughan in her first year as an
under 13 ran an excellent race to come 6th in the final of the1500m with a new
pb.
Stars of the age group were Tait Jones and Nicola Bell. In the shot Tait
won the silver medal, just missing out on gold and Nicola was 5th. In the
Javelin Nicola threw a new Club record and a pb to win the silver medal with
Tait taking the bronze with a new pb. Best result came in the discus with Tait
winning the gold and Nicola the silver with a new pb

UNDER 15
GIRLS
Millie Thorpe made it to the final of the 75m hurdles where she came
6th. Millie ran a new pb in the first round of the 200m and jumped 3.70m in
long jump.
Francesca Turner was 6th in her heat of the 200m and 7th in her
75m hurdles race
Helena Garland was 7th in the long jump and 5th in her
heat of the 100m.
Hetty Taylor in her first Championship was 6th in her
heat of the hurdles and 9th in long jump with a new pb. Hetty also made it to
the semi-final of the 100m where she came 6th.
Hetty’s best result was in
shot where she won the silver medal, making it a one two for Walton.
Lucy
Withers ran two new pbs in the 1500m to make it to the final of the 1500m
where she came a very good 7th.
Sophie Mace despite being not 100% had
another fantastic weekend. Sophie started by winning the shot on the
Saturday. On the Sunday Sophie started where she left off by
winning the hammer with a championship best performance and followed this up
again by winning the discus with another championship best performance. In a
close javelin competition she was in silver medal position until the last
round where she was pushed down to 4th.

UNDER 17 WOMEN
Only one
Walton athlete in this age group, Lucy Weir in the long jump. Lucy finished
8th with a jump of 4.7m

UNDER 20 WOMEN
Lack of training and fitness
didn’t stop Lisa O’Brien winning both the 100m hurdles and the long
jump.
Sister Sinead lacking practice with a year out at university, took
the silver medal in hammer and the bronze in shot and discus.

SENIOR
WOMEN
Veterans Susie McLoughlin and Helen Channon showed they can still
compete with the best. Helen won the long jump and Susie took the silver medal
in the 400m. Susie also ran a respectable time in the 200m to finish
4th.
Tina Howell took the gold in the triple jump with 9.82m.
Fiona
Parry won a rare track event for the Club winning the gold in the 1500m with a
new pb. Fiona also doubled up in the 800m and won the bronze medal again with
a new pb.
Carla Letheby in her first year as a senior threw 3 seasons bests
and one pb in the shot.
Carla was second in hammer and shot. The shot was
extremely close losing out in the 5th round by just 6cm.
In discus Carla
won the gold medal and doubled up to take the javelin gold as
well.

UNDER 13 BOYS
Oliver Coppellotti, despite being under the
weather, ran a good 1500m to take 6th place.
Sam Mace looked like he was
going to have a bad start to the weekend when he lost his rhythm in the under
15 boys hammer. However, he pulled out one good throw to take the gold medal
from boys two years older than himself.
Normal service was resumed with
another star performance in javelin and discus where Sam not only set new
championship best performances, but also County records.
In the shot Sam
again claimed the gold medal with a throw only 4cm below that of the mighty
Michael Wheeler’s record. A fantastic set of results.

UNDER 15
BOYS
Euan Traynor in his first Championship ran a pb in the 300m to finish
4th in his heat and just miss out on qualification for the final. Euan also
jumped a pb in long jump to finish 6th.
Calum Beauchamp had a great weekend
running two pbs in the heat and the final of the 1500m, winning the bronze
medal in a fast race.
Curtis Court had another great weekend coming 8th in
long jump with a new pb. In the high jump Curtis held it together in a tense
competition to take the gold medal on count back with a new pb.
Sawa
Yamakawa in his first year as an under 15 also had a great weekend. Sawa won
the bronze medal in the 80m hurdles and took the silver in javelin with a new
pb. In the discus Sawa won the bronze medal and topped off the weekend by
throwing himself instead of an implement to win the long jump with a
pb.

UNDER 20 MEN
Curtis Knight was on good form throwing pbs in
javelin and hammer. In the hammer Curtis won gold with a pb. In the discus
Curtis won the silver medal and followed this up by winning the silver in
javelin with a new pb.

SENIOR MEN
Martin Norman was the only senior
man at the Club brave enough to step onto the track. Martin carrying a slight
injury finished 6th in his heat of the 200m.
George Thomas high jumped his
way to the silver medal.
Rob Smith, another Walton athlete not 100%, just
missed out on a medal in the hammer to finish 4th.
Veteran Craig Timmings
brushed off the cob webs and showed he can still pole vault by winning the
gold medal.
All in all a brilliant weekend for the Club and the athletes
who competed.

LILY B SUTTON ARENA 11TH MAY

The first girls’ match of the season saw a good turn out of under 11,
13 and 15 girls. However, with no under 17s bothering to compete the
result was disappointing if somewhat predictable.

With a large number of girls competing for the first time and a large
number of non scorers the team should improve as the season
progresses.

With so many impressive performances it is difficult to pick out the best
performance of the day. However, for  determination and excitement the
600m race between Emma and Megan must be one of the best. Can’t wait for the
rematch.
