Surrey Cross Country League Guildford 14th January

Almost thirty  Walton athletes braved the wintry conditions on Merrow Down on Saturday in the third Surrey League match.  The courses were tough and made harder by the unpleasant weather .

The senior ladies race was first with Jo Locker and Natalie Warren recording their best league positions of the season,  Jo 33rd in 23.09, Nat 39th in 23.22  Ros Aylett came 122nd in 29.38 and the team were 15th
Under 17 girls Rebecca Simms 16th 27.45 Josie Morley 18th 28.12 Team 7th
Under 15 Girls. Sarah Morris 27th 15.07, Nicola Aylett 29th 15.44 Team 10th
There was an excellent turnout of under 13 girls. Kim Dawkins was the first finisher 25th in 14.08 followed by Lauren Highton 29th 14.19, Abi Wroth 32nd 14.56, Carla Letherby 42nd 16.29, Shannon Kay 45th 16.42, Eleanor Palmer 51st 17.30, Kim Gooding 52nd 17.56  Team shown as 13th in error on the results, should be 8th.
The combined boys u13/u15/u17 race followed with  Alex Ferrelly finishing 1st under 15 in 16.45, Harry Marchbank 3rd under 13 in 18.12, Ben Kennard 4th under 13 19.12, Alex Aylett 9th under 17 20.28, Jack Marchbank 7th under 15 20.39, Maxwell Boorman 11th under 17 23.18 and Christian Murphy 13th under 15 25.24.
Under 13 team 3rd, combined u15/u17 team 3rd.
The last race of the day in the worsening weather and approaching darkness was the senior men’s. A depleted team came 8th but there were some good individual runs, especially from John Redshaw.   James Harvey led the team home in 19th 27.56, Robin Copestick 30th 29.04, John Redshaw 34th (1st under 20!) 29.10, Stevyn Mills 93rd 33.32, Andy Jones 94th 33.56. Team 8th.
A measure of the weakness of the team was that we had 7 injured/unfit athletes watching the 5 finishers.
