Youth Development League – LAG – Match 4 – Walton

It was a small but determined team who arrived at Walton for the final YDL LAG match of the season. We welcomed Megan Coffey to the team for her first performance in a Walton vest. The U13 boys had a good day with a massive PB from Ross Hurst in the 1500m taking 14 seconds off his previous PB and delivering the performance of the day. There were also PBs for Ricky Villa-Abrille in the 100m and in the SP for Jack Taylor. The U15 girls also had a good day with a PB in the 300m for Emma Horsey, 100m for Alex Beauchamp, 200m for Eva West and 800m for Imogen Burton and Zoe Grimes who ran a great race between them. Charlotte Vaughan also broke another club record in the 1500m. Rachel Pharaoh gained a hat-trick of PB’s in the 800m, 300m and SP and Tom Cursons in the 200m – fine performances from the outgoing team captains. There were more PB’s for the U15 boys – Michael Cotterill in the 800m, Ben Fitzpatrick and Tom Jones in the 1500m and Josh Cowie in the HT. The U13 girls followed suit with PB’s for Caitlin Paul in the 75m, Olivia Hansen in the 70mH and SP, Bella Wiles in the 800m and Tea McBean in the HJ. Once again the relays proved exciting with the U13 girls getting another PB in the 4x100m as did the U13 boys and the U15 boys also got a PB in their 4x300m relay. The girls team of Charlotte, Emma, Rachel and Megan (stepping in for Clara in the last match) remained unbeaten this season in their 4x300m relay, finishing in style on yet another PB.

A huge thank you to all the officials who braved the heat to allow us to compete, to Andrew for his great coaching and to Hilary for surviving the box, the spreadsheet and the printer! A big thank you to Tom and Rachel for being fantastic team captains this year. Thank you too, to all the parents who helped out on the day, before, during and after the match and for supporting all the athletes so enthusiastically.

Finally, thank you very much for the lovely (and very unexpected!) flowers. It’s been a steep learning curve this season but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it – thank you for all your support, advice and patience!
