South of England Cross Country

Eleven junior athletes made the trip down to Brighton for the South of England Cross Country Championships at Stanmer Park.
On a very muddy and hilly course Ollie Emment continued his great season with another outstanding performance in the under 13 Boys race to come home in 13th place.  In the under 15 Boys race Jack Gemmell was the first Walton athlete home in 59th, next was Tom Jones in 75th and Ross Hurst in 100th, all three committed themselves well in very tough conditions.
The under men 17 men’s race over 6km set off at a furious pace but Ollie Coppellotti had one of his best runs this season to come home in 79th place, next home was Joshua Taylor in 115th closely followed by Michael Cottrill in 117th place. Matt Pharaoh was the sole Walton representive in the under 20 men’s race over 8km. Matt gave it his all and was rewarded with 59th place in an extremely highy competitive race.
On the girls side only three made the trip to Brighton but all three did themselves proud. Imogen Burton had a solid run, looking strong throughout to come home in 81st place in the under 15 girls race. In the under 17 women’s race Darby Begley-Jones came 54th followed by Rachel Pharaoh in 66th place.
Congratulations to all the athletes who competed and represented the club admirably.
