SEAA Age Group Champs

6 Medals for Walton Athletes at Crystal Palace

Last weekend was the South of England U15 and U17 Championships held at Crystal Palace National Stadium. Walton AC had several athletes competing, all of whom did the club proud.

Stealing the show was George Sudderick, who won the U15 Boys 300m in 36.30s. Sam Mace was in customary sparkling form, claiming a silver in the U17 Men’s shot put (13.89) and a bronze in the hammer (58.71m). Tyler Panton also claimed double medal honours with bronzes in the U15 Boys 100 (11.44s) and 200 (23.38s). Also in the medals was Sia Banbury, with bronze in the U17 women’s hammer (49.67m).

Elsewhere in the U15 age groups, Rueben Leyland was 7th in the 300 (38.24s), while Emma Horsey and Megan Coffey contested the 800m, Emma taking 5th place with a PB 2:17.38. Ross Hurst ran 5:02.64 for 15th in the 1500, while Georgia Russell had a very busy day, just missing bronze in the shot put wih 9.61m (PB), and throwing 19.79m in the discus and another PB 29.08m in the hammer.

In the U17 age group, Charlotte Vaughan was 5th in the 800m with 2:19.85.

A fantastic set of results as the season draws to a close with just the England Championships at Bedford next weekend to come. 

 

European Masters Championships

Taplin and McLoughlin Take Home Impressive Haul of European Medals

Walton Athletic Club was pleased to have two of our athletes compete in the European Masters Championships in Aarhus, Denmark last week. Susie McLoughlin (W40) and Chris Taplin (M45) proudly wore the GB Vests competing in the heats, semis and finals of the sprints.

Susie McLoughlin was in superb form in the individual events claiming Silver in the 100, 200 & 400m, with times of 12.97s (-2.7), 26.05s (-1.6), & 59.26s. With heats and finals in each event it was an impressive haul.

 

Chris Taplin had heats, semis and finals to contend with and 66 entries so was pleased to final in the 400m with 7th place and a seasons best of 53.84s and another season’  s best in the 200m with 24.37 (-1.5) in the semi-final. Chris was fortunate to be selected to compete in both the relays and was very proud to win Gold in the 4x100m relay with 44.89s and a Silver in the 4x400m (3:34.09).

 

Next year is Madrid (European Indoors) and the World outdoors in Malaga so hopefully we will have a strong Walton AC representation.

Weekend Intercounties Matches

Amy earns Surrey Vest at U13 Intercounties

Amy van der Westhuizen was selected to represent Surrey in the Derek Crookes Under 13 Inter Counties at Kingston last Saturday.

Competing in the Shot Put Amy came a creditable 7th out of 13 wearing her first Surrey vest with pride. Well done Amy.

Also competing was Oliver Emment in the 800m non-scoring with a new PB of 2.22.

Meanwhile,  Hugo Fleming and Fiona de Mauny were in action for Walton AC and Surrey at the combined England Senior/AAA/CAU Championships in Bedford. Although both went out in the heats in very tactical races, they both raced well and neither looked out of place in events that were won by world silver medallist Hannah England and former Loughborough International winner James McMurray.

Well done both of you!

YDL UAG – Match 4 Report

Last YDL Match of the Season

Well done to one and all for our last match of the season at Croydon, a smaller squad with the Summer break already in full swing.

It was a mixed day with our Team Captains Sophie Mace and Matthew Pharaoh bidding a sad farewell to the league. Thank you both for all your support to the club over the years, be sure to wear your Team Captain badges with pride!

The U17 Women Clara Sawicki, Kate Raven, Darby Begley-Jones and Phoebe Schofield covered the Track events in style, Phoebe with a PB in the 80m hurdles and Kate Raven a PB in the 300m.

While Tait Jones supported Nicola Bell in her debut Hammer and Javelin throw PBs in both taking care of the Field.

The 4 X 300m Relay team consisting of Phoebe, Clara, Kate and Darby also ran a PB. Go girls!

The U17 Men never like to be out done! Ben Marks took on the steeplechase with a PB and Ben Fitzpatrick had a PB in his YDL Debut in the 800m. The track team with Sam Bishop, Tom Cursons, Josef Hubbard, Edward Dawson and Joshua Taylor all ran their socks off to gain valuable points aided by the 4 X 400m Relay team of Ben Fitzpatrick, Joshua Taylor, Edward Dawson and Ben Marks.

The 4 X 100m Relay ran a PB with Sam Bishop, Sam Mace, Tom Cursons and Josef Hubbard.

Sophie Mace was joined in the U20 Women by Gbemisola Ogunfiditimi who made her YDL Debut in the 100m. Sophie covered the throws successfully to wave goodbye to the YDL.

Running the first U20 Women’s 4 X 100m Sophie was joined by her younger colleagues to help say goodbye with one last race. Thank you Kate Raven, Tait Jones and Nicola Bell. Guess what, you all ran a PB !

Last but by no means least was our U20 Men team of three. We had 2 PBs in the 400m for Team Captain Matthew Pharaoh and also Mark Jacoby. Mark also had a PB in 800m. Charlie Feinson had a PB in Discus .

Our Team Captains must be our Woman/Man of the Match so well done Sophie Mace and Matthew Pharaoh and we wish you both all the very best in the Senior Leagues, which you have both been already competing in.

Thank you to our super team of officials who have supported us all throughout the season. For the first time we have gained maximum points ! Thanks Jack Rutherford – Time Keeper , Nick Dawson -Track Judge, Debbie Singleton – Lead, Andrew Kennard – Official and Coach of the day,

Karen Hubbard, Sarah Sawicki, Elaine Pharaoh, Hilary Jones, Tait Jones, Stuart Mace, Sophie Mace and Sam Mace. Tait, Sophie and Sam who juggled athlete duties and officiating. Always a huge thank you to all the parents for their support and taxi service of course!

Overall Walton has finished 5th out of 7 teams so once again well done all.
