George Sudderick, in imperious form, swept all aside in the U15 Boys 200 and 300, despite having to run 5 races across the weekend, setting Club Records when collecting comfortable gold medal wins in both with 23.31 and 36.85. Also stealing the show was Sam Mace, with a Club Record of 62.26m for gold in the U17 Hammer and another Club Record 46.85m for silver in the discus, also winning the Shot Put with 14.03m and the Javelin with 47.74m (a PB). Our other County Champions came mostly from field events, with Greg Conlon clearing half a metre higher than his closest rival in the senior men’s pole vault with 4.20m, and Lisa O’Brien winning the Senior Women’s Long Jump with 4.93m, also taking silver medals in the javelin with a PB of 33.31m, and the high jump with 1.45, plus another PB in the shot put of 7.93m. A cracking race, though only between the pair of them, between Joe Hubbard and Tom Cursons in the U17 men’s 400 hurdles saw Joe victorious with a 60.61s PB, while Tom had to settle for silver, but it wasn’t without a fight, only 1/10th behind Joe with a PB 60.71s. Joe also won a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles. Sia Banbury won the U17 women’s hammer with a PB throw of 50.00m, while Tait Jones won the U17 discus with 40.02m. Jasmine de la Touche won the U15 girls’ hammer with a PB of 32.99m, and also took silver in the Shot Put and bronze in the discus and javelin.

Susie McLoughlin and Fiona de Mauny provided silvers in the senior women’s track events in the 200m and 3000m, with Fiona also taking bronze in the women’s 800. Charlotte Vaughan also took silver in the U17 women’s 3000m, while Emma Horsey ran a brilliant 43.58s PB to take silver in the U17 women’s 300, behind a Championship Record from the winner.
Those taking home bronze medals were Sinead O’Brien in the senior women’s hammer and Jo Locker in the senior women’s 3000. Nicola Bell took three bronze medals in the U17 women’s hammer with a PB of 45.17, the javelin and the shot put, while Clara Sawicki took bronze in the U17 women’s 300m hurdles. YDL UAG Match 1 – Report
YDL LAG Match 1- Report
A group of young and inexperienced junior athletes mixed with more experienced older athletes travelled to Portsmouth on Saturday morning for the first YDL LAG match of the season.
There were several new athletes competing in the YDL league for the first time, including Amy Lee Van der Westhuizen, Emma Fisher, Christopher Vaughan, Luca Soave, Josh and Finn Punton, Tyler Panton, George Sudderick, Lani Caldwell, Ollie Emment, Charlotte Maxwell, Ben Palmer and Sam Davidson, all of whom showed great maturity and determination throughout the day. A special mention goes to another new athlete competing for the first time, William Clarke, who sadly injured himself in the 75m hurdles but showed great team spirit by remaining to support the team to the end. We wish William a speedy recovery and hope to see him back at the track soon.
There were many SBs, numerous PBs and outstanding performances during the match. For example, Jacob Gelona in the U13B 75mH B race; George Sudderick and Tyler Panton in the U15B sprints; Georgia Russell and Eva West in the U15G HT and Luca Soave and Josh Cowie in the U15B HT. Male Athlete of the Match, however, goes to Evan Lee who set new PBs to win both the HJ and 100m B race and the Female Athlete of the Match goes to Emma Fisher for PBs in the 75m and 150m coming 1st and 2nd respectively.
Thank you to the officials, without whom we wouldn’t be able to compete and to Andrew for giving up his weekend to coach and Team Manage! Thank you too, to Lorraine, Linda and Tracy for helping in my absence and to all the parents who supported and got the athletes to the right place at the right time with the right number on!
Congratulations to all the athletes who competed and got the team off to a good start. The official results should be out soon on the YDL and Power of 10 websites. We are now looking forward to improving on this great start at the next match on 20th May in Bournemouth.

Southern Athletics League – 15th April 2017
Saturday saw the first Southern Athletics League match of the season at Kingston against Kingston, Portsmouth and Hillingdon.
For a lot of under 17 athletes this was their first ever senior competition and they took to it well with some excellent performances and a number of PBs.
Charlotte Vaughan ran her first 3000m race and made up over 30m on the leader on the last lap to snatch victory just before the line. In the other distance races there were wins for Fiona de Mauny and Darby Begley-Jones in the 800m A&B and the 1500m B for Jo locker with Fiona 2nd in the A.
There were wins in both 400m hurdles races with Sarah Burke winning the A and Jemima Hobbs knocking 3s from her recent PB to win the B. Sarah also won the A string sprint hurdles and the 400m with Lizzie Amos winning the B 400.
On the field there was a hammer pb for Sophie Mace (48.18) for 2nd in the A string with Sia Banbury winning the B hammer with a PB of 39.49. We had a double win in the discus with Sophie 43.14 and Tait Jones 36.61. Helen Channon was 2nd in the long jump with Lisa O’Brien winning the B event.
The 4 x 100m relay team of Lisa, Lizzie, Sophie and Helen came 3rd.
There were fewer highlights on the men’s side but Greg Conlon had a good win in the pole vault with 4.00. Sam Mace in his first competition with a senior weight hammer threw 47.06, for 3rd in the A string, Rob C Smith won the B with 41.02. We had two 2nd places in the sprint hurdles from Greg and Rob A Smith. Ben Marks and Matt Reed ran 4.19.9 and 4 20.4 for 3rd and 2nd in the 1500m. In the sprints Stu Channon and Josh Hathaway were 3rd A and 2nd B in the 100m and then reversed their order in the 200 with Josh 3rd A and Stu winning the B. The 4 x 100m team of Stu and Josh, together with Sam Bishop and Jamie West came 2nd in 46.6.
Well done to all who competed and apologies to those we don’t have space to mention but full results will be available on the SAL website soon.
Despite our largest ever SAL team of 40 athletes and all these great performances, the large number of empty events we had meant that in a very strong match we came last.
Hopefully we’ll have another strong team with fewer empty events in the next match which is on Saturday 20th May, also at Kingston.
