SAL Match 2 Report

Walton hosted the second round match in the SAL at Kingston yesterday. The team did well to finish a comfortable second to a very strong Windsor team, beating Brighton and Ealing.There were many PBs and season’s bests across a range of events.

Starting with the women, Susie and Helen ran season’s bests for 2nd places in the 100m, Susie and Sarah ran SBs in the 200. In the 400, Kate Raven ran her first ever 400 and recorded an excellent 62.0 for 3rd in the A race with Lucy 2nd in the B. Rebecca and Rachel picked up two 2nd places in the 800m, again in SBs, and in the 1500 Becky was again 2nd. Mandy Ruks was just outside 20 mins for 3rd in the 5000m and Becky ran a PB for 2nd in the steeplechase. Lucy ran a SB for the sprint hurdles and in the 400m hurdles there were SBs for Sarah and Lucy for 2nd and 3rd and a big pb for Jemima, 72.7.

On the field Sophie won the shot, discus and hammer and was 2nd in the B javelin. Sinead won the B string hammer in a season’s best and was 3rd in the shot and discus. Lisa was 3rd in the javelin.

Helen and Lisa were 2nd in the long jumps and Lisa and Kate were 3rd in the two high jump comps. Sinead triple jumped. Among the other non scorers, Pheobe ran a 200m PB and was just outside her best in the long jump.

In the men’s events Stuart ran seasons bests in the 100 & 200 with Dave and Sam running the B string races. Charlie and Jamie ran well in the 400s and in the 800 there was a win for Hugo in 1.56 with Matt Pharoah 2nd in the B string and a PB for Ed as a non scorer. In the 1500m there were two 2nd places and two pb’s for Ben Fitzpatrick and Isaac, both breaking 4.30 for the first time. Matt Reed and Chris Ness were 3rd and 2nd in the 3000m and Rob Smith 2nd in the steeplechase. Rob was 2nd in the 400m hurdles and Matt Reed won the B race, Rob and Greg were 2nd in the sprint hurdles.

Rob Smith did the A high jump with Jon Ladley winning the B, Rob and Jon triple jumped coming 3rd and 2nd. In the long Jump Sam and Stuart gained 2nd places. In the pole vault Greg vaulted his highest for 3 years, 4.35 for 2nd, with Jon 2nd in the B.

In the hammer there were wins for the other Rob Smith and Bernhard, in the javelin Bernhard and Joe were both 2nd. In the shot, Bernhard and Joe were 3rd and 2nd and in the disus Bernhard and Jon were both 2nd. The sprint relay team of Tom, Jamie, Sam and Stuart pinched 3rd place on the line, and in the 4 x 400m relay Isaac ran 2 seconds faster than ever before and Jon ran his fastest for a few years.

Among the non scorers, Tom knocked a second off his 400 best and 1.5s off his 200 PB for 55.9 & 24.2. Michael and Mark were both a couple of tenths outside their PBs for 400 with Robbie running a season’s best. Dave O’Connell improved his season’s best over 200m.
