A number of Walton athletes were in championship action over the bank holiday weekend.

Starting with the younger age groups, Carla Letheby and Hugo Fleming competed in the South of England under 15 championships at Ashford.

On Saturday Carla came 4th in the shot and went one better to pick up the bronze medal in the discus. On Sunday she came 7th in the javelin and then won another bronze medal in the hammer, where she improved her under 15 club record to 33.26.

Hugo ran very close to his pb in the 400m and then knocked a few seconds off his 800m best time to record 2.13.86 finishing 4th in his heat, and just missing qualification for the final.

Moving on to the seniors James Harvey and Jon Hamblen represented Surrey in the Inter county championships at Bedford. Both ran season’s best times, Jon in the 5000m and James in the steeplechase.

Our veteran athletes completed the picture with four representatives in the Surrey County Masters Championship at Kingston.

Jo Regan won the 100m, long jump and triple jump in the w35 age group, Kevin Shepherd won the m55 hammer , Joe Eastwood won the m55 javelin with Kevin 3rd and Robin Roach picked up three medals in the m60 age group, 2nd in the discus and 3rd in the 200m and the shot.
