Surrey XC League – Juniors’ Match 3

Seventeen junior athletes made the trip to Coulsdon to compete in match 3 of the Surrey Cross Country League.

In the under 15/17 Boys Jack Gemmell was first home in 10th place closely followed by Joshua Taylor in 12th, Ross Hurst in 14th and Tom Jones 16th, Rueben Leyland 22nd, Michael Cottrill 30th, Edward Dawson 41st, Ben Palmer, 44th and Jack Fernandes 53rd place.

The under 15/17 Boys came second in the team competition and after 3 matches are lying in second place only 5 points behind South London Harriers, so all to go for in the last fixture next month to see if they can win the team title.

In the under 13 Boys race Josh Punton was first home in 4th place closely followed by his twin brother Finn in 5th, next home was Ben Shepherd in 11th Harry Tuckman 17th, Christopher Vaughan 20th, Harvey Ball 24th, Jacob Gelona 36th and Callum Stewart 42nd.

The under 13 Boys won the team competition, their third win in a row and continue to dominate the race for the overall title with one race remaining.

The final league race is on Saturday 10th February at Wimbledon Common.

 

SEAA U15/U17 Indoor Champs

SIX MEDALS FOR WALTON AT SEAA UNDER 15/17 CHAMPS

George Sudderick kicked off his 2018 campaign where he left off last season with a scintillating victory over 300 metres at the South of England Champs. Running from Lane 5, with gasps from the crowd, George flew round the track to stop the clock at 36:72, to go to number 2 on the all time under 15 Boys Indoor 300 Rankings.

Newcomer Charlie Hawkins in his first ever competitive race for the club did himself proud and came away with the bronze medal in the 300 metres in 41:22.

Tyler Panton moving up an age group this year also had a good Championships, on day one he made the Semi Finals of the U17 men’s 60metres running 7:30. Then on day two he ran a superb 200 in 22:90 to pick up the silver medal in a high
quality field.

The Agyei-Kyem sisters, Jeslyn and Cedelle both competing for the first time in a Walton vest continued the medal haul with impressive performances. Jeslyn took the Silver medal in the under 15 girls 200 in
26:53 and placed 5th in the 60 metres on Day one in 8:09. Older sister Cedelle took bronze in the U17 women’s 400 in 60:07.

Georgia Russell had a fine series in the under 15 girls shot and was rewarded with a huge new pb of 10:61 and a bronze medal.
