Surrey XC League – Juniors’ Match 3

Seventeen junior athletes made the trip to Coulsdon to compete in match 3 of the Surrey Cross Country League.

In the under 15/17 Boys Jack Gemmell was first home in 10th place closely followed by Joshua Taylor in 12th, Ross Hurst in 14th and Tom Jones 16th, Rueben Leyland 22nd, Michael Cottrill 30th, Edward Dawson 41st, Ben Palmer, 44th and Jack Fernandes 53rd place.

The under 15/17 Boys came second in the team competition and after 3 matches are lying in second place only 5 points behind South London Harriers, so all to go for in the last fixture next month to see if they can win the team title.

In the under 13 Boys race Josh Punton was first home in 4th place closely followed by his twin brother Finn in 5th, next home was Ben Shepherd in 11th Harry Tuckman 17th, Christopher Vaughan 20th, Harvey Ball 24th, Jacob Gelona 36th and Callum Stewart 42nd.

The under 13 Boys won the team competition, their third win in a row and continue to dominate the race for the overall title with one race remaining.

The final league race is on Saturday 10th February at Wimbledon Common.

SEAA U15/U17 Indoor Champs

SIX MEDALS FOR WALTON AT SEAA UNDER 15/17 CHAMPS

George Sudderick kicked off his 2018 campaign where he left off last season with a scintillating victory over 300 metres at the South of England Champs. Running from Lane 5, with gasps from the crowd, George flew round the track to stop the clock at 36:72, to go to number 2 on the all time under 15 Boys Indoor 300 Rankings.

Newcomer Charlie Hawkins in his first ever competitive race for the club did himself proud and came away with the bronze medal in the 300 metres in 41:22.

Tyler Panton moving up an age group this year also had a good Championships, on day one he made the Semi Finals of the U17 men’s 60metres running 7:30. Then on day two he ran a superb 200 in 22:90 to pick up the silver medal in a high
quality field.

The Agyei-Kyem sisters, Jeslyn and Cedelle both competing for the first time in a Walton vest continued the medal haul with impressive performances. Jeslyn took the Silver medal in the under 15 girls 200 in
26:53 and placed 5th in the 60 metres on Day one in 8:09. Older sister Cedelle took bronze in the U17 women’s 400 in 60:07.

Georgia Russell had a fine series in the under 15 girls shot and was rewarded with a huge new pb of 10:61 and a bronze medal.

Surrey XC Champs 2018

Today at Denbies in the Surrey Cross Country Championships, we had some great team results:

Under 15 Boys were 5th
Under 17 Girls were 4th (combined event with U20, 1st Under 17 only team)
Under 17 Boys won SILVER
Senior Men were 9th (worth pointing out that the Senior Men beat 2 teams from the Surrey League 1st Division and were the 2nd highest non-division 1 club)

Well done to everyone who raced, there were also some great individual performances in other age groups without full teams.
There will be full reports hopefully coming soon, but in the meantime, here are some photos of the senior races.

Senior League Fixtures 2018

While most of us are still getting muddy on cross country fields, or for the more faint of heart and chilly of hand, getting stuck in to indoors or sportshall actions, the Senior League fixtures for 2018 have been published. We have FOUR senior home matches this year, two in each league, so officials and volunteers, as well as athletes of course, will be in demand. Please pop the fixtures into your diary (they are also available in the calendar under the “Fixtures” tab here)

Membership Renewals

Membership renewals for 2018 have been sent out this week to all current Walton AC members via email. Please contact Tim Grose if you have not received an email, as it is important that our membership database is up to date.

The process and categories of membership have changed a little for 2018, in part due to the move to the new facility. Therefore, please review the information in the following text, which is a copy of the information sent via email, carefully.

Walton AC Membership Details for 2018
Following the move to our new home at Waterside Drive the committee has taken the opportunity to review and simplify the club memberships options for 2018 which will take effect from 1st Jan.
• Full membership of the club is £100 per year for all age groups.
• For this you will be able to train at the track at Waterside Drive for no additional fees during club training times (see website for details) and compete as an England Athletics registered athlete.
• Full members who want to use our gym room at Waterside Drive can do so for an additional £50 per year, subject to undertaking an induction session.
• Please note that new members must purchase a vest for £15.
We will be managing memberships using the England Athletics myAthletics portal. All existing members should already have an England Athletics account and we recommend that you login and check your contact details are up to date. New members should complete the new membership form on the Walton AC website and email it to Tim to get set up.
To rejoin the club for 2018 please send an email to tim@timgrose.com and treasurer@waltonac.co.uk with your name and attach a photo for your new membership card (see details below). Please state whether you would like gym access.
The club can no longer accept cheques or cash so all payment must be made via online banking to:

Access to Waterside Drive
• Members will need to carry a Walton AC membership card to gain access to the track at Waterside Drive at the club training times. The photo can be taken by a smart phone camera but needs to be head and shoulders only and at least 1MB.
• A new card will be issued each year once membership has been paid. If you lose your card, a replacement will cost £2 to cover the cost of production of individual cards.
• The photos will only be used for the membership card.
• The cards will be available for collection at Waterside Drive.
• Club members wishing to train on the track outside normal club times will need to pay the normal public track fee. See here for prices.
• A reduced membership fee of £50 is available to those athletes who will never use the facilities at Waterside Drive during club training times. For these members, payment for every use of the facilities outside of club training times must be made at the Xcel centre. See here for prices.
