In the throws Debbie Singleton picked up two 2nd places and two 3rds and there were B string wins for Helen Williams in the shot and Tina Howell in the discus.
The pole vault went well for Walton despite the windy conditions with Debbie equalling her seasons best for 3rd and new pb’s for Lauren Garhard (2nd in the B event) and for Rebecca Pickering, competing as a non scorer.
The best event for the juniors was the high jump where Chelsey Lavall and Kim Dawkins claimed two 1st places.  Nathalie Jones and Ellen Sellwood sprinted well against some good opposition.
Kim Dawkins and Nicola Aylett gained two 3rd places in the 800m and the Hall twins, Harriet and Eleanor picked up two 2nd places in the 1500m. Their were personal bests in all the throws from Nicola and Chelsey in the javelin, Harriet and Eleanor in the discus and Ellen and Nicola in the shot.

Southern Men’s League 5th August at Bracknell

A solid third place in the last league match of the season left the men’s team in 16th place in division two, safely clear of relegation.
There were only four event wins for Walton but a lot of good performances meant many 2nds and 3rds.
The return of Josh Davis strengthened the throwing events and two of the event wins were in the shot where Josh won teh A string and Simon Percival with a pb of 10.66 won the B. Josh had two 3rd places and a 4th in teh other throws but that promoted Simon and Kevin Shepherd to 2nd in the B string Discus and Javelin.
Ramon Wright and Mark Partidge ran well in the high standard sprint races. John Redshaw knocked 2.5s off his 800m pb and Steve Mills ran a seasons best time in the B string. John then ran a good 1500m with John Marsden running a seasons best in the B race.
Walton’s other wins were in the 5000m where James Harvey and Jon Brine ran well judged races to overtake the early leaders in both the A and B strings. Jon Brines time was a pb.
In the Steeplechase James and Jon dopubled up again for two 2nd places wioth James running sub 10 minutes for the first time this season.
Adam McCarthy equalled his pb for 2nd place in the sprint hurdles with Stuart Fawcett 3rd in the B race. Adam and Stuart also teamed up in the 400m hurdles and the pole vault.
Courtney Codrington equalled his high jump best and went one better in the triple jump with a new pb and a first jump over 12m. Courtney also long jumped with Jon Ladley.

Golden Jubilee Cup Semi Final 30th July at Eton

Our senior athletes made the short trip to Eton at the end of July for the Golden Jubilee Cup semifinal. This is a national knockout cup involving clubs of all standards fincluding the top British League clubs. It is also the only mixed match that our seniors take part in with mens and womens events counting towards the teams total score.
We were drawn in a semifinal match with 5 British League clubs, and two other Southern League clubs, one from division one and the other in our division so we were just about the lowest ranked club in the match. As a result our 5th place finish was an excellent achievement as our athletes responded well to the level of  competition.
We had two event wins, Helen Williams ran a seasons best to win the 200m and Jon Hamblen led almost from the start and lapped all his competitors to win the 10000m.
Helen also picked up two 2nd places in teh 100m and the long jump and Craig Timmings vaulted 4.00m for 2nd place.
There were two pb’s for Walton athletes, Nat Warren knocked 1.5s off her 800m best and John Redshaw improved his 1500 best by  an impressive 11s.
In all it was a very good all round team performance. Full details below.
