Southern Men’s League 3rd June at Bromley

Better weather greeted the men for their third match of the season at Bromley but a much weakened team could only manage 5th place on the day
There was another good team effort with a number of athletes filling in with unfamiliar events and there were still some excellent performances and a number of pb’s. The result still leaves Walton in 10th place of the 25 clubs in the league with both the next matches at home and a five week gap  before the first of them which should allow some of the injured athletes to recover.

There were only two event wins for Walton, Adam McCarthy ran a new pb to win the sprint hurdles and Mark Partridge, in his first senior match, won the B string 200m and came 2nd in the B string 100.
In the absence of regular vaulters Craig and Stuart, Jon Ladley and Adam McCarthy filled in well with a 4th and 3rd place. Jon also produced a pb in the long jump for 2nd place. Courtney Codrington equalled his seasons best in the high jump and increased his triple jump pb by 42cm.
Phil Lacey returned to action with 3rd place in teh B string 400m.
There were some good distance runs. Alex Ferrelly was just outside his pb in the 800 and 1500 and John Redshaw was just outside his best time claiming 2nd place in the 5000m. Jon Brine continued his comeback running 30s quicker than last time for 3rd in the 5000m  and Phil Bearman made a welcome first appearance of the season claiming 3rd place in the A steeplechase. Steve Mills had a busy day ,making his debut at 400m hurdles and sprint hurdles, running the 800m and still managing to come 3rd in the B string steeplchase at the end of the match.
Kevin Shepherd improved his seasons best in the javelin for 3rd and Robin Roach managed 4th place in the discus.
