Weekend Round Up 17th/18th June

There were two junior matches this weekend, the home Lily B match on Saturday and an Ebbisham League match on Sunday at Croydon.

A few others were in action.
Two of our senior ladies ran in an open meeting at Tooting Bec and both recorded 1500m personal bests. Jo Locker ran 4.49.4 and Natalie Warren 5.07.1

Jack Marchbank ran two personal bests in an afternoon at his District Schools Championships, 2.18 for 800m amd 4.58 to win the 1500m. We don’t normally see any results from Schools Championships so please let us have any results you know of.

Endurance running coach Jon Hamblen showed that he can still do it as well as coach it with a 2nd place from a field of 900 runners in the Yately 10k in 33.20.

Hugo Fleming  ran at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre (Eton) on 19th June in the
West Surrey Prep School Championships (IAPS) where he came 1st in the
U12 800m with a time of 2:31.5 , a new personal best.  He will now race at the National Championships in Birmingham later this month. This was the day after he ran in the Ebbisham League match at Croydon.
This coming weekend is another busy one with the Southern Women’s League team travelling to Wimborne on Saturday and the Young Athletes League team in action on Sunday at Perivale.

 

Lily B League 17th June at Walton

A better turnout of athletes for the home match produced a 3rd place for Walton.There were a total of 14 event wins, mainly in fiield events, and many personal best performances.

Rosie Marino won the 80m hurdles and the high jump in the under 17 age group.In the under 15 group there were double wins in the High Jump (Chelsey Lavall and Kim Dawkins) and Long Jump (Ellen Sellwood and Chelsey) and a win for Nicola Aylett in the Shot.

There was almost a clean sweep for Walton in the under 13 throws, the Javelin produced wins for Carla Letheby and Katherine Burkett, the Shot wins for Charlotte Toms and Sophie Childs and the Discus an A string win for Carla with Loron Childs 2nd in the B string. On the track Katie Draper won the B 200m and the B string relay team picked up a win.

Ebbisham League 18th June Croydon

Only five athletes made the trip to Croydon and although they produced some good performances the team came last in the match and are now 5th of the six clubs in division 1.

 

The only event winner was Alex Stockinger who came first in the Under1 5 boys 800m with a time of 2.17.5, but there were and places for Ben Kennard in teh 400m and for Wes Turner in the Shot and Discus, and a 3rd place for Charlie Badham in the Discus.

Weekend Round Up 10th/11th June

The weekend was dominated by the junior club championship which produced the usual high level of competition with some high quality performance.

Also this weekend, on Saturday ,were the Surrrey Schools Championships. We have heard about two excellent performances by Walton athletes and if anyone has any other news to report please let us know.. Kaylee Price improved her 100m hurdles personal best to 15.7s and Alex Ferrelly improved his pb for 1500m to 4.16.85, congratulation to both.

Last week saw the third Rosenheim League match see Rosenheim League match 3
Next weekend we have a home Lily B League match starting at 12.00 at Stompond Lane.

There are events for under 13, under 15 and under 17 girls and there are also some non scoring events for under 11 girls. Contact John Lane or Mike Fraser or any coach for details.

Junior Club Championships 11th June

Walton’s junior athletes met at Stompond Lane on Sunday for their annual club championship. As usual there was fierce competition for the medals and the various age group trophies with a total of 68 athletes producing many personal best performances.
The under 11 girls winner was Eleanor Palmer with Lucy Paskell  2nd and Alice McGill 3rd. There were 14 athletes fighting for the under 11 boys award and the close competition resulted in a tie for 3rd place between Phillip Bearman and Sam O’Dell, 2nd was Andreas Breimyr and the winner by a single point was Robert Lichfield.
The under 13 girls group had the largest entry with 16 competitors and produced some excellent performances. Carla Letheby  won the overall competition with Emma Leech 2nd and Abbie Wroth 3rd. The boys competition was equally close with Josh Corrigan just holding off Joe Walsh with Hugo Fleming 3rd.The older age groups had fewer entrants but no less enthusiasm. Last years under 13 joint winner, Kim Dawkins won the under 15 girls event closely followed by Chelsey Lavall with Ellen Sellwood just behind in 3rd place.
The under 15 boys competition was the closest of the day with the title being shared between Louis Johnson and Alex Stockinger, Harry Marchbank was 3rd.
Rebecca Pickering won the under 17 women’s event and in the under 17 men’s age group the top three from last years under 15 competition claimed the medals  with Ramon Wright  turning the tables on Alex Ferrelly to win with Ryan Scothern 3rd.

Many thanks to all the officials and helpers who gave up their time to ensure that the meeting ran successfully.
