SURREY SPORTSHALL 2012-2013 SPECTRUM GUILDFORD

Walton athletes had one of there best years over the 3 match
series.

A shortage of under 13s boys held the team back, but Sawa Yamakawa
and Sam Mace proved their worth and were selected to represent Surrey in the
intercounties match.

The very competitive under 13 girls age group was well supported with
the Club able to enter up to three teams. The first team always showed well
coming 3rd ,6th and 5th. Hetty Taylor performed very well over all the
matches and was selected to represent Surrey at the intercounties match.
Charlotte Vaughan also impressed in the 6 lap races and narrowly missed out on
selection for the intercounties match. With a large number
of girls competing for the first time we should do even better next
year.

The under the 15 girls again suffered from a lack numbers, but in the final
match the team of Millie Thorpe, Francesca Turner, Sophie Mace and Helena
Garland pulled out all the stops and won the match by half a point from
Kingston. Sophie and Millie were both selected to represent Surrey in the
intercounties match.

The under 15 boys had a good season with 2 third places and one second
place in the final match. Euan Traynor improved through out the season coming
6th overall in the final match.
With his partner Josh Cook they were
particularly impressive in the parrlauf.

Well done to all the teams and five athletes selected to represent the
County.

SURREY COUNTY INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP 16TH-17Th FEBRUARY SUTTON

Walton athletes competing in this year’s championship had a good weekend
winning 5 gold medals, 3 silver and 2 bronze.
Carla Letheby won
the bronze medal in the senior women’s shot.
In the under 20 women’s age
group Sinead O’Bien won the gold medal in shot. Sister Lisa did the double
winning the high jump and triple jump. Lisa also won the silver medal in the
60m hurdles and the bronze medal in the long jump.
Sophie Mace competing in
the under 15 and under 17 shot also did the double winning both events. The
under 17 result was impressive as Sophie threw a pb to take the title from
the winner of last year’s under 15 champion. Even more impressive was the
under 15 result where Sophie set a new championship record.
In the under
15 boy’s age group Sawa Yamakawa won silver medals in the long jump and 60m
