The senior team made a good start to the season in a tough match at Bedford despite a weakened team.

Some performances were down because athletes were competing in more events than usual but there were still a number of personal bests.

Walton finished third behind host club Bedford and Chelmsford and ahead of Milton Keynes.

Walton AC U17/U20 Match Report – 18^th May – Medway Park

We kicked off our first YDL league match of the 2015 season at Medway Park, which saw many newcomers to the club and some great Personal Best performances, with two 1^st place finishes in the U17 Mens 400m Hurdles. Calum Beauchamp won the A string race in a PB of 61.6 seconds. Mark Jacoby won the B string with a time of 71.2, also a PB and his first race in senior competition.

Whilst the 400m Hurdles was going on, Euan Traynor and Sophie Mace picked up 2^nd and 1^st place respectively in the field. Euan jumping a PB of 5.75m in the U17m long jump, and Sophie throwing 12.41m in the U17w Shot.

Back on the track was the 1500m, Adam Watts starting things off for the U20’s coming 4^th with a PB of 4:34.9. In the U17 race we had two new comers to the club and the sport, Lewis Mann and Isaac Mammen. Lewis came won the A string running a best time of 4:41.3, and Isaac came 2^nd for the B string with a PB, running 5:13.6.

In the field, Sophie Mace won the women’s hammer with 51.23m, a few cm shy of her PB of 51.42m.

We then moved onto the 100m races which saw three newcomers to the club; Mathew Wettach, Liam Bushall, and Jamine Balloch all pick up PB’s in less than ideal conditions for sprinting. Mathew ran 13.2 for the U20m A string, Liam 12.9 for the B string U17m and Jasmine 14.5 for the U20w. The event also saw a 3^rd place for Joe O’Connor, his first year in the U17 age group, pick up a PB of 11.6.

Joe also threw a PB in the U17m Javelin, scoring 21.56m and picking up second place.

In the 400m, with had A and B strings in both age groups; Matthew Pharaoh and Ed Hunter picking up 5^th and 3^rd place respectively, with Matthew running a PB in the event. The U17’s had Calum Beauchamp in the A, picking up second in 55.4, and Kieran Allinson also came second with 59.2, taking a huge chunk off his previous best.

Next up was the men’s 3000m – which saw only two runners for Walton, Edmund Hunter in the U20 A string, and Jake Wakeling (also his first competition for Walton) representing the U17’s. Edmund picked up a 4^th place with 10:53.9 and Jake took 3^rd with a PB of 11:17.5

Jamie West was up next in the field, taking part in the U17m Shot, throwing a PB of 8.64 and came 3^rd. Jamie also ran a PB in the U17m 200m B string with 25.6, coming 3^rd. Joe O’Connor came a closed 2^nd in the A string with 24.6, and Mathew Wettach finished our representation in the 200m with a PB 27.3 in the U20 A string.

Next up for Walton was Euan Traynor in the U17 Triple Jump – he won the event with his 1^st attempt, jumping a new best of 11.76m.

We had full representation in the mens 800m, which saw Matthew Pharaoh take 5^th in the A and Adam Watts win the B with a PB (2:14.5) for the U20’s. The U17’s both picked up PB’s with Charlie Feinson taking 3^rd in the A (2:11.1) and Cameron Chisholm take 2^nd in the B (2:15.3).

Whilst all that was going on, Sophie Mace won the women’s discus with 44.10m.

Edmund Hunter, having already done the 3k, then took 2^nd place in the U20m 2k Steeplechase with 8:09.1.

Next were the Relays. The U17m quartet of O’Connor, Bushall, Allinson, and West won the 4x100m with 49.2secs and the 4x400m team of Allinson, Mann, Jacoby, and Feinson picked up 2^nd place.

We finished the day 3^rd overall (special mention to the Traynor’s, Mace’s, Andrew, and Sharon, who’s contribution picked up the necessary points to firmly secure the position).

A great start to the season. Well done all who took part!

Three Walton athletes ran in the nationals at Parliament Hill on Saturday, all three were running at Parliament Hill for the first time.

In the under 13 girls race Charlotte Vaughan and Rachel Pharaoh finished in 55th and 56th places running the same time of 13.58. there were 433 finishers in the race.

In the senior women’s race Fiona De Mauny came 206th of 865 finishers in 38.36.
